Sister Sadie

Sunday, June 22, 2025

Chart-topping bluegrass music phenoms (who happen to all be women), Sister Sadie swings into Kansas for a long-awaited performance. Led by 2024 IBMA fiddler of the Year Deannie Richardson and banjo virtuoso Gina Britt, these ladies pack a punch both instrumentally and vocally. It’s no wonder they were Grammy nominees this year and have a new recording under their DKNY rodeo buckles.

Sometimes on Sunday – A Dad band (if there ever was one) takes the stage at 4 PM.
A few years back, these notable career educators got together in somebody’s basement, often on a sabbath, and what has emerged is Wichitawesome. “Better late than never,” they say.

Wichita Brewing Company will be in the house with a new pale ale called Songbird along with everyone’s favorite, Lyon’s Den BBQ – it’s roaring good.

Bring the whole neighborhood.

Split Lip Rayfield

Sunday, June 8, 2025

Power string band trio, Split Lip Rayfield, known for their “Stage Five Thrash Grass sound,” became notoriously popular in Midwest bluegrass circles around the turn of the 21st century. They enjoyed a huge following and then a near-fatal blow when founding member Kurt Rundstrom tragically succumbed to cancer in 2007. After some fits and starts, the boys are getting the band back together and performing a few select shows.

We are thrilled to have these genre-defining luminaries back after a long hiatus. Last time they performed at Bartlett in 2013, torrential unexpected rain began to fall— yet no one left the lawn. This promises to be a not-to-miss reunion.

Ruthie Foster

Sunday, June 1, 2025

This highly anticipated artist, rescheduled from last year, will make her debut at Bartlett Arboretum on the first of June.

Three-time Grammy nominee, and 2024 Grammy Blues Winner, Ruthie Foster transforms sorrow into career defining soul+blues joyful journey. From a family of gospel singers, as a teenager, Foster began fronting blues bands in the bars of Waco, Texas. Hoping for a wider view of the world she served our nation in the US Navy and was cherry-picked to sing with the naval band, PRIDE. Following her tour of duty, Foster headed to NYC and readily scored a record deal with Atlantic. The label had the intention of cultivating her as a budding pop star, but she preferred, instead, to explore the various strains of American roots music that informed her childhood. When her mother fell ill in 1993, Ruthie suddenly returned to Texas to care for her.

Her list of honors is extensive. She is a native of Austin, Texas but travels extensively all over the world. Her concert at Bartlett Arboretum will be one for the books.
